Pencak Silat, graceful, fierce and forceful, is known for its grand mix of techniques. Its four principle elements are: Bela diri = self-defence Olah raga = sports Ilmu Silat = inner power Seni = cultural blueprints, like kata’s.

 

In South East Asean countries, especially Indonesia and Malaysia, Pencak Silat is reknown as a national sports, besides its merital and cultural status performing at (night)markets, pasar malams, festivals and weddings. Army, university and primary schools students are educated in Pencak Silat.

South East Asean teams and its elite of pesilats (fighters) are in a great mere government supported, undergoing fulltime daily training at special silat training facilities such as Padepokan Taman Minih Indonesia in Jakarta. World Championship finals, SEA (South East Asian) Game triumphs are broadcasted live to millions of viewers across the archipelago. Currently Vietnam is the leading force in silat competition next to Indonesia and Malaysia while Thailand, Singapore and Brunei are booking great effort.
